M2® Smart Connect

High-integrity tubing connection with digital identification

The next-generation coupling combines the proven M2® sealing with RFID identification: every coupling gets a digital passport, and the tubing string gets full lifecycle traceability.

What it is

Six elements of Smart Connect

The body is a standard API coupling (8rd, EUE), structurally unchanged: full compatibility with the existing stock and processes.

Combined CRA ring

A corrosion-resistant alloy insert provides high seal integrity and resistance in CO₂ and H₂S environments.

PTFE seal

Reliable protection of the J-area and thread connection, natural make-up torque feedback — as in M2®.

Embedded RFID tag

No drilling of the pipe body. Records the full lifecycle of the coupling and pipe: manufacture date, make-ups, operating conditions.

Digital passport

A ready-made answer to the upcoming 2027–28 digital equipment passport requirements.

Repeated make-and-break

8–10+ cycles with no loss of seal integrity — ideal for workover stock.

System integration

Data flows through middleware into ERP, maintenance systems and corporate AI models.

Digital passport

Every coupling knows its history

The RFID tag automatically accumulates data at every operation — make-up, workover, change of operating conditions. This is what a coupling digital passport looks like:

Field workflow

How it works on site

  1. 01

    Mill

The RFID tag receives a unique ID. Production date, material and certificate are recorded.

  2. 02

    Yard

A handheld terminal scans the whole stack in seconds. Status changes automatically to “In stock”.

  3. 03

    Well — running in

The operator scans the coupling before make-up. It is linked to the pipe and the well number.

  4. 04

    Well — pulling out

The coupling is scanned again on pull-out. Status “Retrieved” is recorded.

  5. 05

    Repair

Scanning opens the work order. Defects and repairs are recorded.

  6. 06

    Middleware

Collects, filters and integrates the data into ERP, maintenance and AI systems in real time.

Benefits

What digital identification delivers

Lower OPEX

Fewer tubing replacements and workovers thanks to 8–10+ make-up cycles and corrosion protection.

Data for AI and digital twins

Clean per-coupling data — for prediction, chemical treatment planning and procurement documentation.

Ready for 2027–28

Fully matches the expected digital equipment passport requirements.

Simple integration

Middleware plus ready connectors for ERP, maintenance systems and AI platforms.

A single standard

Measurable applicability limits: temperature up to 200–250 °C, pressure up to 10,000+ psi, CO₂ partial pressure. A material selection matrix for challenging wells.

Economic effect

Direct reduction of tubing procurement, operation and repair costs.
